VOL. I · WASHINGTON TARIFF DECISION ASSISTANT · April 25, 2026
§ TERMS OF SERVICE

Terms of Service

By using Duty (dutylane.com) you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service. Duty is provided free of charge and as a reference workbench, not as legal or customs advice.

Service description

Duty provides HTS classification search, US import duty estimation, and access to Federal Register tariff change feeds. The service is built on USITC and Federal Register open data and surfaces those data in a more queryable form.

No warranty / no advice

Duty is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

Duty is not legal advice, customs advice, or a substitute for consulting a licensed customs broker or trade attorney. The final binding determination of US import duty is made by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at entry. You are solely responsible for verifying classifications and rates against official CBP and USITC sources before relying on them for any commercial decision.

Acceptable use

You may use Duty for any lawful purpose. You may not:

  • Attempt to disrupt or overload the service (denial-of-service, excessive scraping that interferes with normal operation).
  • Reverse-engineer, modify, or redistribute the underlying code or data exports beyond what is permitted by the upstream USITC and Federal Register license terms.
  • Use the service to provide formal customs advice to third parties without disclosing that the underlying source is open USITC / Federal Register data and not a binding CBP determination.
  • Misrepresent your identity or use stolen credentials to access account features.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Duty and its operators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to misclassified shipments, incorrect duty calculations, missed Chapter 99 overlays, AD/CVD exposures, customs holds, or financial losses.

If liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, total liability is limited to USD 100.

Modifications

We may modify these terms or the service itself at any time. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
