Privacy Policy
Duty collects only what is required to run the calculator and understand aggregate site usage. This page describes what is collected, why, and how to opt out.
What we collect
Aggregate analytics via Google Analytics 4 (GA4): page views, referrer, approximate location at the country level, browser type, and device class. GA4 is configured to anonymize IP addresses.
Server logs at the Cloudflare edge: IP address, request path, response code, and timestamp, retained for at most 30 days for abuse prevention and debugging.
Feedback you voluntarily submit through Tally: form answers, optional reply email and optional screenshot. Automatic prefill is limited to HTS code, origin, displayed rate, calculation status, data release, language, feedback source and the query-free page address. You may review, edit and copy a redacted query summary and paste it into the form yourself. Leaving an email allows follow-up about progress on this issue; anonymous feedback is welcome.
Contact details, cargo details, and route information in the freight quote form are collected only when you actively enter and submit them in the external form. Duty auto-prefills only the safe whitelist above (HTS code, origin, displayed rate, calculation status, data release, locale, quote source, and a query-free page URL); GA does not collect form contents.
To improve query results, we store redacted query text, language, entry point, time, candidate counts and up to five candidate codes, recommended and selected codes, missing-information categories, result status, duration, code/data versions and optional feedback actions in our own database for 90 days. Errors are stored only as controlled categories, without full exceptions or model prompts. We do not attach IP addresses, account details or a cross-query user identifier to these records. Redaction may miss sensitive text: please avoid confidential information.
What we do not collect
We do not collect payment information — Duty is free.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing.
Your recent-query history remains in your own browser. Separately, when query-quality recording is enabled, redacted query diagnostics are stored on our server for 90 days and then automatically cleaned up. A selected code or a positive rating is not treated as proof of a correct classification.
Third-party services
Cloudflare (hosting, edge cache, DDoS protection): processes all requests. See Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Google Analytics (aggregate usage): see Google Privacy Policy. To opt out, install the GA opt-out browser add-on.
Tally (voluntary feedback reports): processes answers, optional email and screenshots that you choose to submit. Duty does not automatically pass product descriptions, customs values, quantities, account information or calculator query parameters. Query summaries are shared only if you paste and submit them yourself. Tally feedback is separate from the 90-day server diagnostics cleanup. See Tally privacy policy.
Google Fonts (typography): served from Google CDN. Your browser may share IP and User-Agent with Google when fetching font files.
Your rights
You can request deletion of any data you submitted (for example feedback form contents) at any time by emailing hello@dutylane.com. We will action the request within 14 days.
Recent queries are stored in your browser; clear the site data in your browser settings to remove them.
EU/UK residents: you have the rights granted under the GDPR / UK GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, and data portability. Contact us using the email above to exercise these rights.
To help locate a query-quality record, include its query reference when contacting hello@dutylane.com. Locally generated diagnostic reports are separate copies and should be retained only as needed. Only manually reviewed and further redacted examples may be kept as regression cases.
Changes to this policy
Material changes to this policy will be reflected in the "Last updated" date below. For substantive changes that affect how we handle existing data, we will post a notice on the home page for at least 14 days.
Shared query results
When you explicitly create a share, DutyLane stores the previewed result snapshot for 30 days. Anyone with the link can view it without signing in. Shares are not listed in sitemaps and are marked not for search indexing. Customs value and duty amounts are included by default; you can exclude them before creating the link.
Automatic filtering cannot guarantee anonymity. Review the description and conditions before sharing. The snapshot does not update automatically. A revocation credential is saved only in the creating browser. Revocation removes the stored snapshot immediately; expired snapshots are inaccessible and removed by scheduled cleanup. A content-free receipt may remain until expiry to prevent replay. Clearing browser data removes the ability to revoke. Revocation cannot recall copies already saved by others.
Share pages do not load third-party analytics. Invalid links, expired shares and revoked shares no longer reveal the result.
