About Duty
Duty is a free, traceable US import duty workbench for cross-border sellers. Every duty number on the site can be traced back to its source record in USITC HTS or the Federal Register.
What Duty does
Find the right HTS classification by HTS number, English description, or Chinese description. The semantic search ranks candidates by similarity and shows the full heading path so you can verify specificity before committing.
Calculate landing duty by stacking the MFN base rate against active Chapter 99 overlays — Section 301 (China), IEEPA actions, reciprocal tariff notices, and Section 232 steel and aluminum tariffs.
Compare alternative origins so you can see, for the same HTS code, what the same shipment would cost from China versus Vietnam, Mexico, India, or any of the other default comparison countries.
Track Federal Register changes — new HTS rate notices appear on the /changes timeline within hours of being indexed.
What Duty is not
Duty is not legal advice and is not affiliated with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), USITC, USTR, or any government agency. The final binding determination of duty is made by CBP at entry.
Antidumping (AD) and countervailing duty (CVD) cases are not evaluated automatically. Product-specific exclusion requests granted by USTR are also out of scope.
Duty does not handle classification disputes — escalate to CBP via a binding ruling request.
Data and methodology
Base column rates and HTS descriptions come from the USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule export, refreshed weekly. Chapter 99 overlays and policy actions come from the US Federal Register, refreshed approximately every 6 hours. Origin trade-share data comes from the US Census Bureau.
